Central Park, one
of the greatest works of art to come down to us from the nineteenth century,
has hidden treasures that many life-long New Yorkers have never seen.

THE NORTH END Starting at The Pool, near Central Park West, we'll follow the course of Montayne's Rivulet, past waterfalls, through great stone arches and over rustic bridges. We'll visit the oldest building in the park, a stone blockhouse left over from the War of 1812, then the great blue heron who lives in the newly-restored Harlem Meer and finally a spectacular garden, ending our walk at the great wrought iron gates from Cornelius Vanderbilt's Fifth Avenue chateau. |
