With its
grand tree-lined blocks, splendid churches and spectacular views from the
Promenade, this first American suburb is a truly unique enclave. During
our three hour visit we'll drop in on the celebrated abolitionist, Reverend
Henry Ward Beecher and his "slave auction" at Plymouth Church,
visit Walt Whitman, Thomas Wolfe and W. H. Auden and savor the architecture
and history of the finest surviving nineteenth century residential neighborhood
in the city. Weather permitting, we'll return to Manhattan walking over
the Brooklyn Bridge.
